Not again

Mrs. Rani Chandran, one of the best teachers I have known to have ever taught at PSBB, was killed in a tragic road accident last evening. The link is to the news article.

Two deaths in as many days has left me a little shaken.

Mrs. Chandran was singularly responsible for raising the standard of the English language drama at PSBB. I personally owe a lot to her.

Just a minute ago in the Drama department I am in now, I saw a poster announcing a Bristol Old Vic production of David Campton's Us and Them. I still remember running through the very same production with her many years ago. I will certainly miss her a lot; and so will a bunch of other PSBB bloggers, especially those of us who have worked with her on the English dramas.

Goodbye Cleo

I announce the sudden demise of our cat Cleo in a tragic road accident. We loved her so much. I certainly will miss her a lot. I cannot bear looking at her litter try and left-over crumbs in her food bowl. She's right now in a box next to all that. We'll be giving her a quiet burial this evening in the backyard.

Bring back the snowstorm!

It is unbelievably fucking hot here! I've got a fan at full blast behind me, windows open. My handkerchief (I always carry one) is soaking wet on my neck. For the first time since I left India, I'm wearing nothing but a pair of pants, an extremely thin short-sleeved shirt (I don't know why I brought that along, but it sure is handy), and Bata slippers.

Others back home might disagree, but I somehow think that today here is as hot as it gets in Madras. There's even the familiar accentuation of all odours on the streets; a very warm breeze; heck, even the bus driver played some Hindi songs. Yeah! True. I thought it was the mind-numbing heat that made me delusional, but it is true. For a while it did feel like I was on a bus in India.

In other news, the Aussies are in a bit of a bother themselves in Bristol

There was a point when Mozart's 40th was my favourite piece of music, but ever since it became a popular ringtone, I've avoided it for some reason. It had become a bit too 'popular' for my liking. When something slips into the same league as the Crazy Frog (for those who do not know him, he's an irritating naked frog who rides an invisible scooter, prompting you to immediately hit mute or change channel on TV), you are not too inclined to publicly admit that you like it.

I then happened to hear the 40th on radio the other day and boy was it good. I suppose there is a reason for it being so popular.

Summer, sunshine and skirts

I've finally found some enjoyable British weather. Hope I've not spoken too soon... The light's changing outside the window now.
Anyway... I've always wondered why even in the middle of the winter, girls here prefer to turn up on the streets dressed in handkerchiefs. Now that summer is here, there are legitimate reasons to dress 'tropical'. I simply love the skirts the girls wear here. Floweryflowingpleatedtastefulcolourfulcotton!
Oh Boy, I love the summer.

Not yet dead

While many of my friends have expressed concern about my absence from the blogosphere, I'm here to assure you that I am not yet dead!

We finally finished principal photography on all four of our graduation films. I was involved in three of the shoots (Two of them set in beautiful Wales—I have almost travelled the length of the country). We're into post-production now. My work as Production Mixer is done; now my job as Sound Designer and Sound Editor has begun. Despite all my regrets about my MSc in Anna University, I have to say that a technical education has helped me in a certain way. In fact, there were specific moments when I was glad I had learnt electronics and acoustics. Of course, there is so much to write about that I do not know where to begin.

So more to come, hopefully soon.
